Polyamines are found in every cell in the body and are required for cell growth and division. Excessive production of polyamines is used by cancer cells to suppress detection and attack by the immune system. Polyamines contribute to an increase of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in tumor microenvironments. Both polyamines and MDSCs are major suppressors of the immune system’s response against cancer.

AMXT 1501 + DFMO reduces cancer’s inherent suppression of the immune system, enabling an immune attack on solid cancer tumors and inhibiting metastases. In preclinical testing involving multiple solid tumor cancer models, AMXT 1501 + DFMO was especially shown to be effective against cancers driven by MYC and RAS, two primary oncogenes known to promote the development of many forms of solid tumor cancers.
